Terraria Review

22 May

A lot of people have been comparing terraria to minecraft, it’s obviously inspired by minecraft, and anyone who can’t see that is some fanboy with a superiority complex. however, I have personally enjoyed terraria far more than minecraft.

It may not look like the greatest thing ever, but remember, minecraft looks like something that could be done on the dreamcast.

and the 16 bit graphics will grow on you, quite a bit. for one thing, it’s much easier to pick up than minecraft, it’s faster, and the worlds are just huge. because it doesn’t need to process schmancy 3d graphics, there’s no lag to be found, and the worlds can be much larger due to the lack of lag.

the enemy variety is fantastic, nothing is too hard that it can’t be defeated, and nothing is too easy that it feels like a cakewalk. some of the giant enemies in the trailer are bosses, so you don’t need to worry about that, as i haven’t encountered a single one yet.

Online play is far better than minecraft, and you can get npcs to move into your town by building houses. speaking of building, crafting is very easy in terraria, unlike in minecraft, where you need to have some sort of wiki up almost all the time, terraria’s crafting menu tells you what you can build right off the bat, then it’s as simple as clicking on it to craft it. however, it will not show you something that you can’t build, in other words, if you don’t have the necessary materials, it won’t show you the object.
it will only show you what you can build with what you have. so a wiki can be useful.

the music can get a bit repetetive though.

terraria is far more than a minecraft clone, made in only two months, it’s only 10 bucks, or about 6 pounds on steam, and it’s well worth it.

Terraria recieves an 8/10. now go buy it.

New sonic generations gameplay

19 May

by now i’d assume you’re tired of sonic generations news, but this is kinda cool.

i love the way this guy has probably never played a sonic game in his life.

Wii Select

3 May

According to Kotaku, Nintendo will be making the Wii price drop to $149.99 official starting May 15th. Further, a new budget line of games retailing for $19.99 will be introduced. These Player’s Choice ‘Wii Select’ line of games should help stimulate sales with the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mario Super Sluggers kicking it all off.

It is also reported that Wii Sports will join the Wii Select line up, signaling the end of it’s long run as THE pack in title for Wii. Taking it’s place will be Mario Kart Wii.

Good news for Nintendo’s bottom line perhaps, but seeing as how I own just about every Nintendo published Wii title, this news doesn’t really do much for me.

I will be buying Smash Bros, Zelda, and New Super Mario Bros again tho, as mine are all scratched up from overuse, and 3 great games for 60 bucks ain’t bad.

Wii is almost dead.

With only 2 compelling titles to offer this year, it’s no wonder that Nintendo’s little white money maker isn’t as compelling as it once was.

Lets cut to the chase. There are just some games that the Wii cannot do, period. It’s not just the visuals that I’m talking about either. Take the Dead Rising franchise for example. One of the draws of the Xbox 360 original was the sheer amount of zombies on screen at one time. The version that Capcom delivered for Wii, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, was so stripped down that at the end of the day it was very un-fun. The Wii simply cannot handle having that many characters on-screen at one time so the developers were forced to scale back.

I bet Nintendo has been thinking the same thing.

Enter Project Café. I wonder how many Pikmin Mr. Miyamoto has in store for us in the next-gen? How far off into the distance will we be able to see in the first ever Zelda title in HD, WILL I BE ABLE TO PLAY SONIC GENERATIONS ON IT?!

I love my Wii, but just like all the consoles before it, after awhile it’s just time for a face lift. You had a good run little buddy, but I’m ready for the next-gen.
